CCS exists under the legal auspices of The Foundation for Excellence in Education which is a federally identified not for profit organization dedicated to serving children through various activities as follows:
Children’s Community School: For 30 years, CCS has provided “education for democracy” to a socio-economically diverse community.
Children’s Arts Institute: For almost eight years, CAI has been providing exceptional summer arts programming at a variety of locations. Check out the CAI website here: CAI.
Van Nuys Health Fair and Family Festival: For over 10 years, the Festival has been produced and staffed by the children, parents and staff of Children’s Community School. Working with many social services agencies, the Festival (which takes place in October) offers free health information and services to underserved families in Van Nuys. Van Nuys Civic Center West Neighborhood Group: For over 5 years, VNCC has been holding their monthly neighborhood meetings on the CCS campus. On the last Tuesday of each month, we come together as a local neighborhood group to discuss crime, traffic, trash pick-up, parking - you name it! Chaired by Maria Cerna and attended regularly by Senior Lead LAPD Office Tony Cabunoc, this group of people who care about our neighborhood has become close to each other and close to the School.
