Social Studies and Field Trips

The World is Our Classroom

Social Studies are at the heart of a CCS education. Our social studies curriculum incorporates reading, language arts, math, music, science, dance, drama and the visual arts to create a well-rounded, integrated program. Our inspiration is John Dewey’s “learning by doing” philosophy – what educators call “experiential learning”: Children only become engaged when they can relate their study to their own lives and to the real world. Therefore, we begin each course of study with the child’s own questions. Because the world is the laboratory from which your child can draw first-hand information, field trips are an integral part of every program. In addition, we make every effort to bring experience into the classroom by tapping knowledgeable community resources to speak to pupils and provide a real-world perspective.
