Visual and Performing Arts

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”  Joseph Chilton Pearce

Children’s Community School has a strong, rigorous arts curriculum and offers a wide variety of visual and performing arts. In addition to formal art instruction, all of the arts are integrated into our social studies curriculum. Once we head down a path of study, we employ many forms of expression that encompass our students’ diverse learning styles. Your child will write essays and give speeches; paint, weave, and mold clay; perform, sometimes in costume, everything from dances, songs, and stories to sophisticated dramatic presentations that they have written.

We also believe that fantasy is an integral, natural part of childhood, and encourage children to express their inner fantasy world in a variety of ways.  From music to dance and movement, print shop, ceramics and open art studio, children are encouraged to share this part of themselves with their peer group and others. Through this freedom of expression, children learn to feel accepted as part of a community. Through their growing confidence in their ability to express themselves in a variety of mediums, they mature into confident, creative adults.
